Professional Product Management (PPM): Product Life Cycle Management
2 April, 2027 – Hilversum, The Netherlands
Many products just keep growing in features. Something new is added all the time, but hardly anything is ever removed. On top of that, too little thought goes into where the product is in its lifecycle, and which strategy fits that stage best. In this two-day training, you learn where your product and its features sit in their lifecycle, and how to align your product strategy with that. You go home with new insights, and the courage to make the choices your product needs!

What will you learn?
Most organizations can just build new things. But removing something from a product or deleting a feature is a lot harder. So the product keeps getting bigger, maintenance and complexity grow with it, and nobody knows exactly what still delivers value.
In the PPM – Product Lifecycle Management training, you learn how to steer a product through every stage of its lifecycle, from development and growth to maturity and phase-out. Product Lifecycle Management is about the value of your product over its entire lifetime: knowing which stage it’s in, steering on that consciously, and aligning your strategy with it.
You learn where your product and features stand today, what data you need to determine that, and which strategy fits each stage. You also learn how to phase out a feature carefully. That way, you invest in what really delivers value, and you dare to let go of what no longer does!
Key takeaways
- Determine which lifecycle stage your product and features are in
- Create a product or feature strategy that fits that stage
- Make well-founded choices about what to grow, maintain or phase out
- Phase out a feature carefully, with an approach you can repeat
Program
This training is mostly about hands-on application. We work with a light agenda, so there’s plenty of room for your questions and challenges around your product’s lifecycle. We alternate short content blocks with exercises on your own product, individually and in small groups.
Before the training, you receive a short paper on Product Lifecycle Management that gives you some context upfront and takes some of the theory load off the training days.
- What is Product Management, and where does the lifecycle fit in?
- The six stages of the product lifecycle
- Which target audiences you serve in which stage, and how you keep growing
- At what level to apply the lifecycle: portfolio, product or feature
- Mapping your own product and features, and deciding what data you need for that
- Product strategy, and how it changes per stage
- Creating a product or feature strategy for your own product
- From strategy to product goals and an outcome-oriented roadmap
- Saying goodbye: phasing out a feature, and who decides on that
- Optional deep dive: buy-or-build, or lifecycle management for software, hardware and vendor products
Who is it for?
This training is for product professionals who are responsible for an existing product, and who want to decide what to invest in and what to let go of. Or are you just getting started and still looking for the right product-market fit? Then this training is for you!
