To help them do so effectively in a complex environment, many organizations use an Agile scaling framework that scales <a href=\"https:\/\/academy.xebia.com\/discipline\/scrum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scrum<\/a>, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scrum.org\/resources\/online-nexus-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Nexus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scaledagileframework.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SAFe<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/less.works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">LeSS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.crisp.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/SpotifyScaling.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Spotify<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scrumatscale.com\/scrum-at-scale-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Scrum@Scale<\/a>. <br><br>To be sure, there is nothing wrong with that. Do not scale if you don&#8217;t have to.<br><br>How do you know if you have to scale? Some companies start scaling when they realize that they cannot develop their product within the confines of a single team.<br><br>Other companies start scaling when they realize that they can&#8217;t complete the work they need to do within the preferred time frame. When do they realize this? When they have tried to create the product or service with one to five Scrum Teams. That is, when they have tried \u2014 and failed \u2014 to deliver a sufficient number of done increments with plain vanilla Scrum.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper\" \n\tdata-id=\"a1d3179d\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__anchor\" id=\"our-company\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-columns\" data-id=\"1b658518\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"block-column\" data-id=\"c8390100\">\n\t\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper wrapper--simple\" \n\tdata-id=\"1170c1a6\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-heading\" data-id=\"9387c9cb\">\n\t<h2\tclass=\"heading block-heading__heading\"\n\tdata-id=\"262319c6\"\n>\n\tHave You Really Tried Scrum?<\/h2><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-column\" data-id=\"252bd80e\">\n\t\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper wrapper--simple\" \n\tdata-id=\"bc9071cf\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-paragraph\" data-id=\"b2b0372c\">\n\t<p class=\"paragraph block-paragraph__paragraph\" data-id=\"e169d5d0\">\n\tIf you have not yet tried to scale Scrum and it is working well for you, don&#8217;t. The benefits of <a href=\"https:\/\/scrumguides.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Scrum<\/a> come from its simplicity. When you start adding processes on top of Scrum, you lose those benefits. So unless you need to scale Scrum, <strong><em>don&#8217;t.<\/em><\/strong><br><br>If you have tried Scrum and it is not working well for you, don&#8217;t scale either. Scaling a framework that is not working will not make it work. Many of them are based on the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). SAFe is a good framework, but it is not the only one. Other frameworks, such as LeSS and Spotify, might be a better fit for your organization.<br><br>All of these frameworks assume you&#8217;re great at a smaller scale with, for example, Scrum and <a href=\"https:\/\/academy.xebia.com\/discipline\/kanban\/\">Kanban<\/a>, or well on your way to becoming great.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper\" \n\tdata-id=\"78bb904f\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__anchor\" id=\"our-company\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-columns\" data-id=\"cd14e1ed\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"block-column\" data-id=\"8caff932\">\n\t\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper wrapper--simple\" \n\tdata-id=\"00aa36a0\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-heading\" data-id=\"416cc26f\">\n\t<h2\tclass=\"heading block-heading__heading\"\n\tdata-id=\"83d87d0e\"\n>\n\tHow to Pick the Right Scaling Framework<\/h2><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-column\" data-id=\"f97d76f4\">\n\t\n\n<div \n\tclass=\"wrapper wrapper--simple\" \n\tdata-id=\"6020c429\" \n\tdata-bg-on-inner=\"false\" \n\t>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wrapper__inner\">\n\t\t\t\n<div class=\"block-paragraph\" data-id=\"87c2db0a\">\n\t<p class=\"paragraph block-paragraph__paragraph\" data-id=\"08f0c0b5\">\n\tThe key thing is to pick the right framework for your organization. Don&#8217;t just use SAFe because somebody sold you on it. The truth is, it doesn&#8217;t matter which one you pick, as long as you avoid the urge to, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.craiglarman.com\/wiki\/index.php?title=Larman%27s_Laws_of_Organizational_Behavior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">as Craig Larman puts it<\/a>, pragmatically customize it for local concerns.<br><br>So, if it doesn&#8217;t matter which framework you pick, and you know you need to pick one because you have tried Scrum at a smaller scale only to discover you need more than five teams to get it done, how do you choose?<br><br>Try them all. Seriously. Invite your teams to run some experiments with all frameworks. Consider using <a href=\"https:\/\/openspaceagility.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenSpace Agility<\/a> as an implementation framework. Then, let them decide which one is most likely to work well for them.
